We transformed The Energy Shop from a legacy price comparison site into one of the UK's fastest-growing energy platforms — combining all four pillars of our DDPP framework: Digital, Data, Partnerships and Platforms.

The Challenge
A legacy platform in need of a reboot
Founded in 2003, The Energy Shop was one of the first Ofgem-accredited comparison sites. By 2020 it was struggling — search visibility had collapsed, the user experience was outdated, and legacy systems stifled growth. Reliant on seasonal PPC performance, the business needed a complete transformation, not just a redesign.
The mandate was simple: "Keep the lights on." The ambition we built was far greater: turn it into a sustainable, scalable digital business.
What We Set Out To Do
Four pillars. One mission.
Digital — Visibility & Conversions
Rebuild the website from scratch with content-led SEO, structured data and a mobile-first experience that converts.
Data — Tariff Feeds as Competitive Advantage
Build automated dashboards and live tariff data pipelines that power content, tools and third-party integrations.
Partnerships — Reach & Credibility at Scale
Secure strategic deals with Which?, British Gas and E.ON, and build an affiliate network of 300+ brokers.
Platforms — Infrastructure for Scale
Build a bespoke CRM, quoting engine and API layer, enabling a pivot to a Service-as-a-Platform model.
How We Did It
Strategy & Tactics
Full mobile-first redesign targeting queries like "business energy quotes" with schema markup to win featured snippets and AI Overviews.
Automated dashboards cutting reporting from days to minutes. Live tariff datasets powering content, tools and partner integrations.
100+ high-quality links built, driving domain authority and securing coverage in key energy and consumer publications.
Data-licensing deal with Which?, co-branded whitepapers with Cornwall Insight, and British Gas and E.ON Next onboarded as early API adopters.
Onboarded 300+ brokers and consultancies, creating a long-term recurring revenue stream independent of direct traffic.
Bespoke CRM and quoting engine reducing processing time by 70%, with secure API endpoints enabling a pivot to a Service-as-a-Platform licensing model.
